Fires Creek Rim Trail
Today, Kori and I made the hike to Carver Gap along the Fires Creek Rim Trail in Hayesville, North Carolina. We started at the picnic area and made our way up the 3.5 mile trail, across several ridge tops and passes to Carver Gap. We expected a view, but with the summer growth, we didn’t see much but more mountains through the trees. Instead of hiking back down the same trail to the car, we took the shorter but much steeper Omphus Ridge Trail down to the forest service road and walked back the car that way. It was much easier to go downhill the whole way rather than up and down again multiple times.

It was a pretty great day in the mountains. Plenty of sun shining through the trees and even a nice breeze, kinda disappointed we didn’t see any animals. But I’m happy we didn’t run into any snakes. Trent, you should find out why the trail we took on the way back is called the Omphus trail! There has to be a story behind that!
